Sailin’ Man

I wanna be a sailin’ man, to trip across the waves
I wanna be a sailin’ man, to have, people read my name, someday

You’re a captain on a sailing ship,  you voyage far and wide
Let me be your 1st mate sir, I’d work hard you’d see how I’d try

Cuz I wanna be a sailin’ man, to trip across the waves
I wanna be a sailin’ man, to have, people read my name, someday

We’d sail to lands unknown, I’d speak a foreign tongue
See all those lovely native girls, maybe bring home just one.  Cuz I

I wanna be a sailin’ man, Christopher did too.
To see the wonders of the world if you’ll just take me with you

I wanna be a sailin man, to trip across the waves
I surely surely wanna be a sailin man, to have, people read my name, someday, someday, someday

John Deere and Souvenirs

Well I was born and raised in the city,  I knew a couple of my neighbor’s names
I played rock and roll in a Zeplin band,  I knew every song the Beatles played.
But in the back of my mind I knew there’d come a time,  I’d have to leave it all behind
So with a 3 truck load I hit the road.  I didn’t look back this time..

Well we settled outside of Jackson, two miles down a dirt rock drive
Just my wife and me, my daughter makes 3, three dogs, two cats and some flies.
I couldn't call it a farm, I got a weathered barn, two horses and big oak trees
I’ve got rocks for ground, but I’ve settled down, I’m right where I’m supposed to be

With my John Deeres & Souvenirs I got 11 acres for my yard,

A perfect piece of land, from God’s own hand I got the hawks standing guard,

Well I’m up at 4, I don’t lock my door and I’m tired at the end of the day.

I don't  have a dime but what I have is mine, I wouldn’t have it any other way

I coached the local kids on a baseball team and last year we even won 1 game.

I got my own horseshoer, fresh manure, I got a fair amount of sun and rain

Now in Sutter their putting up a signal light, it's the first in the county to date.

I drive 20 miles for that ice cream run, it's rough, but lord it's great

Well we got ourselves a Chevy pickup truck, no air, no heat, but it runs

My daughters got 22 kids in her class and I know every single one

My social life has changed just a bit there's the car wash and PTA

But every once in a while we just sit and smile and watch the sunlight fade.

With our John Deeres & Souvenirs I got 11 acres for my yard,
A perfect piece of land, from God’s own hand I got the hawks standing guard,
Well I’m up at 4, I don’t lock my door and I’m tired at the end of the day.
I don't  have a dime but what I have is mine, I wouldn’t have it any other way

Said I don't have a dime, but what I have is mine,

And I wouldn't, no I wouldn't have it any other way.

As Daylight Breaks

As daylight breaks above your bed, you waken to a song
All you really wanted was someone to sing along,

Feel so empty though you’re not alone, you walk the streets to find,

Another love when all the time, there was me walking behind

Motionless your heart has stalled it’s holding back once more
Peeking out the windows, locked behind the door
Your eyes elude the night before as he readies now to leave
Turns to hear your answer to “My darling did I please?”

What they’re doing to your nights you bring upon each day
Hoping for a change of life as deeper digs the blade

As daylight falls above your bed, you waken from a dream
Gaze into your mirror, life is what it seems
Love slips through your anxious hands, faster every day
Listen to your heartbeat, turn around and stay

If this were a tiny town, I’m sure you wouldn’t hear the sound, of my heart steppin away.
Away…  Away....

Little Girl

Another day you say you’re leavin again.  Can you imagine that?
A farewell letter with lies in between,  always the same format

Little girl tell me where you’re goin' to
What you wanna be and what you really wanna do.
Tell me where are we goin' to

I remember that day in July, under your door slid a card
Shall I read it or even reply, why make your lovin so hard.

Little girl tell me where you’re goin' to, what I wanna be and what I really want to do.
Tell me where are we goin' to.

Why do you do this over and over again  (I must go, I cannot stay)
Goodbye what is the meaning, if you return here again,
(Maybe tomorrow, or another day)
Why do you do this over and over again

Goodbye what is the meaning,  if you return here again,
and again, goodbye and again, goodbye and again, goodbye and again

Little girl tell me where you’re goin to, what I wanna be and what I really wanna do.
Tell me where are we goin to, little girl tell me where you’re goin to
What I wanna be and what I really want to do, tell me where are we goin to

Ohh ohh ohhohhohhohh ohh

 At the Rendezvous

Won’t you meet me, down at the Rendezvous.  It’s been years since we were there.

All our good times, were at the Rendezvous, like the night you said you cared.

We would wander down by the Old Mill Stream, and I kissed you, under the stars.

All our good hopes have turned to distant dreams, now they’ve left us where we are.

You know we were the only couple, who could really do the shuffle.

Gliding ‘cross the floor, until the music played no more.

But only memories are at the Rendezvous, faded memories of love so true

How I wish we were back at the Rendezvous and I was holding only you.

Though we were the only couple, who could really do the shuffle.
Gliding ‘cross the floor, until the music played no more.

But only memories are at the Rendezvous, faded memories of love so true
How I wish we were back at the Rendezvous and I was holding only you.
Oh I do, and  I was holding only you.

Uptown, Downtown

Uptown, downtown, there’s some talk been goin' round

You and me babe, we can’t make it through
But I’m near, and love’s here, we won’t let anybody interfere
You and me babe, we’re gonna make it through

Can’t they see that, what we’re feelin’, is lovin’ deep down in our hearts,
Though love can hurt you, it can mend you, you know it makes our lives go ‘round

Dark nights, it’s alright, you know I’m gonna hold you tight
Take my hand babe, we’re gonna make it through

So if you stay, another day,  darlin’ everything’ll be OK
You and me babe, we’ve got a love that’s true.

Can’t they see that, what we’re feelin’, is lovin’ deep down in our hearts,
Though love can hurt you, it can mend you, you know it makes our lives go ‘round & 'round & 'round

Uptown, downtown, there’s some talk been goin’ around
You and me, babe, we can’t make it through
But I’m near, love’s here, we won’t let anybody interfere
You and me babe, we’re gonna make it through

Said you and me babe, we’ve got a lot to do
Ah, you and me babe, we’re gonna make it through.
